MEET OUR DC FAMILY FORUM SPEAKERS – DR. Oliver Oatman
In this series, we will introduce you to the experts inside and outside of the HH community who will be presenting at the DC Family Forum on December 3rd.
Please meet Dr. Oliver Oatman, a pediatric endocrinologist at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Dr. Oatman will be leading a roundtable discussion on HH & ENDOCRINE. Hope for HH understands many HH patients struggle with endocrine issues both before and after surgery including precious puberty, abnormalities in endocrine function, diabetes insipidus, hormone replacement therapy etc.
Specialty Training & Background
Dr. Oatman is specialty trained in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology.
Where He is Today
Dr. Oatman is a pediatric endocrinologist at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. After growing up in Wisconsin, he headed to Arizona for medical school at Midwestern University. He completed his pediatric residency at Loma Linda University in California and a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Dr. Oatman’s main interests in endocrinology include pituitary disorders, thyroid disorders and diabetes.

Dr. Oatman has recent publications in Epilepsia on HH including: Epilepsia. 2017 Jun;58 Suppl 2:50-59. doi: 10.1111/epi.13756. Hypothalamic hamartoma with epilepsy: Review of endocrine comorbidity.
Other Leadership
Dr. Oatman serves on the Hope for HH Medical Advisory Board. He is also on the Board of Directors for JDRF Arizona Chapter. He has served as a medical volunteer at diabetes camps every year since 2011.
Outside of work Passions
Dr. Oatman’s personal passions outside of work include: running, hiking, tennis, and spending time with his family (wife , Mary Lou, and two kids – 2 year old son, JJ, and 11 month old daughter, Maggie).
