We are thrilled to be sharing the story of an incredible young man today! His name is Jojo Canariato. His Mom, Stacie, shared their family story with us previously and you can read the latest update here.
However, today we get to hear from Jojo himself! He is now 10 years old and in the 4th grade. Jojo has been through so much, and as you will read for yourself – he has not only survived having a hypothalamic hamartoma (HH) but he has learned to THRIVE with HH.
In this time of uncertainly and fear, I promise you – reading about Jojo and his incredible story of HOPE – will lift your spirits and make you smile. I know that I am thankful he is one of our future leaders and such an outstanding role model for his peers.
Here is Jojo’s story…….
Hi, my name is Jojo and I am 10 years old. I am in 4th grade. I like pigs and boating plus fishing. My favorite sports are skiing, golf, bowling, and basketball and Tae kwon do. I also like riding my bike. As you might have had Hypothalamic Hamartoma I did too and it was a tough time for me and my family. I was having many seizures and I was going in and out of the hospital. Hypothalamic Hamartoma is a type of brain tumor that is very rare. Now I am having a good life with no more brain tumors and seizures.
Even though I am not having surgeries I have to go for blood work every 3 months or so. I am also struggling with weight issues and my mom told me it is called Hypothalamic Obesity. I have a strong personality. I like to help people. I also like playing games with my mom and family. One of my favorite games is Pool and Ping Pong. I like singing and playing my trumpet. I know many songs. When I was younger, I was also in the newspaper. Even though I had Hypothalamic Hamartoma I am still a happy and kind and helpful kid.
