MEET OUR DC FAMILY FORUM SPEAKERS – DR. KERRIGAN
In this series, we will introduce you to the experts inside and outside of the HH community who will be presenting at the DC Family Forum on December 3rd.
Our first presenter is Dr. John (Jack) F. Kerrigan is familiar to many HH patients and families as one of the most learned clinician neurologists in HH internationally. He will be presenting on the topic: “What’s New? Update on HH Treatment & Research.”
For more than 2 decades (25+years), he has been tirelessly caring for HH patients and also spearheading HH research initiatives. He also served as the first and founding Chairman of the Hope for HH Medical Advisory Board.
He is also one of Hope’s go to advisors and has authored materials for the HH website, Epilepsy Foundation, NORD and other lay websites. He is called upon as a frequent presenter at HH patient and professional forums and in the media. You can search Hope for HH’s YouTube site for several talks and interviews given by Dr. Kerrigan through the years.
Specialty Training & Background
Dr. Kerrigan was an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, and earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, where he also completed his residency in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Kerrigan completed a Pediatric Neurology Residency at the University of California at Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Epilepsy at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, under the direction of Robert S. Fisher, M.D., Ph.D.
Where He is Today
Dr. Kerrigan has been the Medical Co-Director of the Hypothalamic Hamartoma (HH) Program at Barrow since 2003. He is the Director of the HH Research Program, which includes multiple clinical and laboratory collaborators, examining treatment outcomes and exploring the basic cellular mechanisms responsible for seizure activity in HH tissue.
Well Published
He is an author or co-author of over 70 papers for peer-reviewed publication, the majority of which relate to HH.
Other Leadership
Dr. Kerrigan is on the Editorial Board for Epilepsy Research, and is a member of the Medical Advisory Board for Hope for Hypothalamic Hamartoma.
Outside of work Passions
When he’s not working, Dr. Kerrigan is passionate about family time and gardening.
