Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI)
A drug that blocks the removal of serotonin from the synapse; thereby prolonging and increasing the effects of serotonin.

Sharp wave
An EEG pattern indicating the potential for epilepsy; “benign” sharp waves are not associated with seizures.
Simple partial seizure
An epileptic seizure that involves only part of the brain and does not impair consciousness.
Slowing
A term used to describe a group of brain waves on the EEG that have a lower frequency than expected for the subject’s age and level of alertness and the area of the brain recorded. Slow waves can result from drowsiness or sleep, drugs, or brain injuries and occur during or after seizures.
